It’s Time for Paid Vacation and Holidays for All

Now that President Trump has signed into law a National Day of Patriotism (whatever that is – we shall soon see), It’s also a good time to start a National conversation about it the fact that we don’t require companies in the United States to provide any paid holidays or vacation pay.  After all, the United Sates has fewer holidays than any other industrialized nation.

Why are Americans not Interested in Politics and Not Registering to Vote?

When researching information regarding voter apathy and low voter registration, I was able to narrow down the reason why Americans are not interested in registering to vote to 4 main reasons: disgust with the status quo and the polarizing tone of politics, greater complexity in issues, politics as a taboo and it doesn’t pertain to them.  I will concede that there are many more than I highlight here, but in order to be concise, I wanted to focus primarily on these four as I believe they cover the majority of reasons why eligible voters are not registering to vote.

Should Patriot Day be a National Holiday?

Should Patriot Day be a National Holiday?

Towards the end of each month, I look forward to ripping off the page of the current month’s calendar and putting a plan in place for the next month.  It’s during this planning period at the end of each month that I like to see what’s coming up and get a few important dates on the calendar.

While updating my calendar for September I got excited about the Labor Day weekend and the NFL football season starting.  However, my mood was tempered by seeing Patriot Day on September 11th and remembering back to what occurred on that day 15 years ago.  It got me thinking about why Patriot Day isn’t a Federal Holiday and why we don’t do a better job of celebrating and remembering.
